Prague Reunion

PRAHA, ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA

A beautiful and exciting part of my studies includes so-called “Reunions”, i.e. student-organised meetings of students from different countries to discover each other’s cities. The first of three I took part in this semester was in Prague, where I was doing my exchange anyways.

The first program point was a guided city tour, on which I stopped to get an ‘authentic Czech Trdelník’, which A) is actually originally from Slovakia and B) Czechs only eat for Christmas but tourists (like me) love to devour all year.

The tour took us over Charles Bridge towards Prague Castle, which after a quick hike up the hill offered an awesome allround view of the city. We were originally split into a few groups to make walking the city easier. However, I did eventually lose my group but ended up joining a different one, which in the end was the biggest because it collected everyone who lost their friends.

Because the social team organising the reunion had come up with so many interesting program points we came tragically late to a meeting with corporate partners at uni. However, given the scope of the event they were patient and we had a nice get-together at VŠE. Upon exiting the building we were greeted by a beautiful sunset mirrored in one of the buildings on the other side of the street. I had to take a snapshot.

The next event was a beer tasting at ‘Beseder‘, a little restaurant with own brewery. For me this concluded the evening as I went to meet a friend for some Gin & Tonics while the others continued the night with a little party.

On Saturday we had a laidback brunch at ‘Eska‘, a wonderful and neatly decorated restaurant and bakery in Karlín (district). The food was great though I still have not gotten used to Czech restaurants charging 2-3€ for tap water. I miss Australia & Norway in this regard, where you would always get a big bottle of cold tap water upon sitting down at a location.

I then headed home to watch the Bahrain Grand Prix and later rejoined for the pub crawl and party night. We went to ‘Pivnice U Sadu‘, a brewery and pub with authentic unfriendly waiters.

Here’s me with Maisam, a good friend who also did his exchange in Prague

Maura from RSM (Rotterdam) who I knew from the semester before in Vienna joined for the pub crawl and did some heavy boxing!

She also did some heavy convincing for me to join for clubbing (at ‘Retro‘) since I originally was not planning to go out that night.

Ahoj!
