Of Churches and Monasteries – Lisbon Day 6

Graça, Lisboa, Portugal

For our last day in Lisbon we wanted to discover the authentic quarter Graça. After breakfast we took the subway for a few stops and after unsuccessfully waiting for a bus for 20 minutes decided to walk up the hill instead.

After crossing a street food market we landed at “Mosteiro de São Vicente de Fora“, the monastery of the same name church next to it. Since we really wanted to check out the rooftop terrace and also the architecture inside, we spontaneously bought a ticket and had a look at the exhibition, too.

As visible, the place was well-maintained and had a lot of craftsmanship put into the details and decorations. However, our highlight was the rooftop terrace which was quite impressive and gave us a view of the surrounding area.

As you would think, the setting also allowed for some really captivating aerial city shots.

You can find a video of those shots on YouTube here.

Moreover, from the roof we were also able to spot our next stop, Igreja de Santa Engrácia

… and a 5-minute walk later we were already there.

This church also had a rooftop which we happily visited. We once more spotted Jesus and Ponte in the distance. These impressive landmarks really add to the city flair.

As we had our flight to Madrid scheduled for that afternoon it was time for us to return to the hotel to get our luggage. We even had time to stop at the supermarket for some snacks before getting to the airport. Fortunately the bus came right on time and we had an easygoing boarding and travel experience.

Goodbye Lisbon!

Adeus!
