Winter, at last.
Having made the most of summertime and autumn in terms of travelling, I was slowly but surely ready for the cold time of year. Once the first snow was spotted in the mountains, my friend Namo and I packed our things and drove to Kreischberg, a mountain located near Murau about 3 hours from Vienna.
We left quite early, so at around 9am we were already in the valley, ready to take the next lift up. Already then, we were greeted by beautiful sunshine and blue skies.

Of course, we immediately went for a few rides. Upon returning to the summit, I wanted to utilise the wonderful weather. It is always lovely to have blue skies creating a captivating panorama in the mountains, and I was happy that I had taken my drone. While the deep snow was not exactly powdery (leading to me having to walk for quite some time to get back to the piste), I found a nice spot to start and record a bit.

We continued skiing – or in Namo’s case snowboarding – for a while and in the early afternoon had lunch at Eagle Panorama Restaurant, that interestingly had a deer as their mascot. Food was good and the DJ playing outside really helped boost the good mood.
After having eaten, we made our way to the fun park where Namo wanted to do some jumps. I found a spot to start my drone from for some cool footage and while waiting for him to take the lift and start his ride, I took some further pictures of the surrounding forest and mountains.

After a while he arrived at the top of the jumps and I got to filming. Even though my drone’s battery almost died, I made it back with some nice clips on the card.
We continued our day of skiing / snowboarding until it was already early evening. Our descents were so quick that we managed to squeeze in “one more ride” time after time, until the lift finally closed.
Once on top, most other people had already departed but we really wanted to take in this beautiful sunset. You can find a video of it on YouTube here.
As you may have guessed, just standing there and watching was not my style, so I sent Droni out to capture the moment one more time. I am glad how phenomenal the pictures turned out .

Utilising this unique opportunity, I also took a panorama where you can see Kreischberg in the front left, the sun setting to the right, and a layer of clouds surrounded by colours.

It did get darker quite quickly though, and we were the only people for miles around. So after taking one last panorama we wanted to return before it was completely dark.

On the way back, we had a nice and fast ride surrounded by beautiful purple skies. I handed Namo my action cam and he filmed me during this scenic run.
After returning with a whole lot of wonderful memories and film clips, Namo even made an aftermovie which you can find on YouTube under this link.
