Wien, Österreich

This one’s about food. A lot of it. For my dad’s birthday, this year my family decided to meet up and celebrate in Vienna.

Coming together

On Friday, everyone arrived and we had some easy, laidback dinner and wine at Heunisch & Erben. The restaurant must be among my favourites as every dish manages to impress in its own way.

Brunch at home & dinner in the city

On Saturday morning, we decided to have brunch at home in a relaxed and familiar setting.

For that evening, we had a table booked at Labstelle, a high-quality, locally-procured, fresh foods type of place. We had a nice menu with some great wines and enjoyed spending the evening together.

Reuben for breakfast

Sunday was my dad’s birthday, and this time around we had a table at NENI am Prater, an industrial-design rooftop restaurant serving orientally-inspired food. It was our first time there, and while the service was quite slow, everything came at different times and for some reason the Reuben sandwich was supposed to be eaten cold, taste-wise everything was very enjoyable. The relaxed atmosphere also gave us the chance to hand over gifts and take some pictures, more so than in the sophisticated setting of a dinner for example.

Looking back and reflecting on it, it was a great weekend … though I did not realise at the time how much food we had eaten until putting all of it together for this post.

Bis zum nächsten Mal!
