For this year’s company excursion we went hiking in the dolomites. On Friday 6th, we got ready in the morning for a trip uphill Giogo Alto di Senales, where we would spend two nights in the mountain refuge “Rifugio Bella Vista“. We put on our boots and started the ascent from the valley on 2.022m above sea level.

The first part of the hike took us through a forest and a lot of greenery. A little later, however, the trees started to fade as we got higher and higher.

About an hour from the start, we came past a large herd of mountain goats going about their day near and on the narrow hiking path. As city people we were quite excited by this, so we took countless pictures and then moved on further uphill.

We soon noticed an array of metal pylons revealing the winter sport use of the mountain. As an avid skier myself, it was quite interesting to see the actual terrain underneath the slopes for once.

There were also some ledges lit by the afternoon sun facing the valley and surrounding nature, which offered a perfect picture opportunity.

The higher we got, the more barren the landscape got, turning into rock solid mountain peaks eventually. About 3 hours after starting our hike we eventually reached the refuge and were greeted by a wonderful panorama with numerous glaciers in our direct line of sight.

We checked into the hotel – or hut, rather – and got small and simple rooms in the wooden building. From my room it was possible to see a small reservoir of water below.

I noticed the sun setting and returned outside again for an evening shot of the beautiful mountains surrounding us. We then had dinner and replenished our energy for the big hike the next day.

A domani!
